Sequoia Premium Puppies - 16 weeks
Nothing could be more important in the development of a bragging rights gun dog than its early conditioning. The problem is that most owners today don't have the schedule that permits the attention to take advantage of their puppy's desire and ability to learn during the first few months of his or her life. The Sequoia Premium Puppy comes to you loving to hunt and unafraid of guns. To begin, we will have selected a Sequoia Premium Puppy as one who demonstrates strong pointing and hunting instincts. These puppies then have the opportunity to "set" those instincts on a course that will become the guidance for their continuing training and development.
A Premium puppy will be excited about birds and ready for continuing training. In our field program, he will have a consistent and proper introduction to the field, including multiple environments, pen raised and wild birds, and guns. We make hunting fun for the puppy. With daily bird contacts he'll have proven that he is confident without fear of hunting in the field. He will have found birds in multiple environments. He will be introduced to running in water and crossing streams. This dog will be properly primed for success. He will be easier and less costly to train than puppies who were taken home at 8-weeks and given general household training. Most pups that go home early get socialized and trained on weekends until they are six-months or older, when, if they're lucky, they go to a professional trainer who has to spend weeks undoing maladaptive behaviors. Our premium puppies are trained with us daily for eight weeks, observed constantly, and given a strong foundation. These foundation training areas will make a good gun dog better. During this critical imprinting period he will have the consistent structure and professional attention that prepare him to be successful in hunting training as well as home living.
In the social obedience program, he will be crate conditioned and sleep in his crate without whining or clawing. He will have collar conditioning and understand that the collar is his control. He will walk on a lead without chewing on the leash. He will go with his master on the lead. He will understand his place in the world. He will be exposed to humans in a variety of settings and have multiple outdoor experiences that build his confidence in himself and the world. He will be house trained to the extent that his mistakes are accidental rather than deliberate. He'll be started in the commands, "Kennel," "Wait," "Go Now," "Here," and "No". Owners will receive a full day of instruction, at our kennel and in the field, in handling their dog.
Dogs are introduced to stopping upon scenting birds.

This puppy comes with many extras: Purchase includes AKC registration with three generation pedigree, an implanted and registered Avid Microchip, all three puppy vaccinations, Rabies, and anti-snake venom vaccination. With the puppy, you will receive a training video that will show you how to continue building on this solid beginning. You will receive the puppy's own leather collar with brass nameplate, leather leash, bowls, and chew toys. To ensure maximum training, only four puppies will be available from the 2008 litter.

We offer a puppy who has been through all training and instinct development up to 16-weeks, including socialization, boldness, environment conditioning, bird, and gun conditioning for $1600. This is the best buy for someone who wants a great hunting companion or a started Field Trial dog and has time to do the further training. The critical areas of loving birds and having no fear of guns will be completed. Owners will be given instruction in training the "Here" and initial "Whoa" commands on multiple dogs and will see the training of more advanced dogs for later use. Buyers will also be given instruction in AKC Hunt testing and Field Trial preparation, including handling assistance if desired.
Hunting instinct development is our priority. This is NOT obedience training. Although instinct is highly developed, your puppy will not be perfect. Premium puppies will not "Sit", "Stay", or "Lie-down". Many obedience commands interfere with pointing dog training. Some of the training will interfere if given prior to the hunting concepts, and some commands should never be taught at all. Premium puppies are not "Started Dogs". Their fullest potential will be set so that they may mature into very strong hunting dogs. Premium puppies are not gun shy. You may take these puppies hunting to continue their training but should not expect that they will perform like a finished hunting dog. At times, they may flush birds and ignore you when you call them back. Their desire to hunt will be magnified. Their natural pointing abilities will been enhanced. They will be bold in the field. Once hunting instinct and desire has been developed, the owner will want to teach Whoa to flush, shot, and drop, and to retrieve, as well as teach the basic rules of the home. Because of the effort to train them, spending every day with them for 4-months, we are very careful about placement. We encourage you to call, come visit, and talk to us with your questions before deciding on a Premium Puppy. We expect these dogs to be family members, not sports equipment.
