Deposits

Deposits on litters are taken on a first come first served basis on a specific litter. The buyer must declare the desired sex of their puppy at the time of the deposit. The deposit is considered a binding commitment by both parties-- refundable if we don't have enough puppies of the chosen gender for all buyers, or may be applied to the next available litter, if desired, but not refunded because you change your mind about purchasing later. Bear in mind that this policy was set in place due to experiences with buyers who placed deposits on several litters and then demanded their deposit back when they chose from another kennel. If this is found to be the case then no refund will be granted.  A deposit will hold your place in the picking order so long as you pick your puppy on or before your available selection day. We reserve the right to refuse a deposit. In some cases we will not sell a puppy. Examples of refused sale are apartment renters and hunters who want a dog for hunting season only. Puppies will not be released to buyers until 8 weeks of age and when deemed healthy enough to go to homes.

Premium Puppies

Premium puppies are chosen by us prior to regular pups. Premium puppies are trained for eight weeks to bring out hunting and pointing instinct, become accustomed to gunfire, and to prepare for advanced training as hunting dogs. Class size is limited so that pups receive intensive conditioning. Premium puppies are intended for serious hunting and field trial homes only.

Applications

All buyers must make application by filling in the information requested and emailing the entire document, including the policies, back to us, this includes the California Pedigree Disclosure below. By your emailing of these documents to us you are agreeing that you have read them, understand, and agree with them. California law is very strict about the disclosure. When an application is accepted a PayPal button will be place on the website for your use.

Names and Registration

All puppies from full Sequoia Kennel breeding (both sire and dam owned by us) are required to carry our Kennel name "Sequoia's" as the first part of their registered name. Our regular pups are sold with limited registrations unless to an established GSP breeder. A dog registered with an AKC Limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition in a licensed or member dog show. Offspring will not be registered by the AKC. It is our expectation that you will spay or neuter your dog. It is eligible, however, to be entered in any other licensed or member event. These events include: Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility and Earthdog. This policy will be rescinded for any dog who has placed in AKC or NSTRA events and has OFA hips rated Fair or better.

Genetic Defects

Our dogs are guaranteed against genetic and health disorders such as genetic heart defects, Canine Hip Dysplasia, etc., up until three years of age. We recommend OFA certification of hips and elbows at 2-years of age. We require that a licensed veterinarian certify that the health problem is genetic in origin and reserve the right to have a second opinion by a veterinarian of our choice. If hips receive an OFA certification as "poor", and after veterinary diagnosis, we will refund the full purchase price of your dog upon proof of spay/neuter. You may keep your dog and the refund. Alternatively, if necessary, the purchaser may return the dog for a replacement with another one from the next available litter. Dogs that develop hip or other joint problems due to overuse syndromes are excluded from guarantee. All veterinary costs are the responsibility of the purchaser unless and until the dog is returned for refund to Sequoia Kennels.

Health Guarantee

We guarantee that the dog is healthy, free from congenital defects, and bred to preserve true breed-type, ability, and temperament. Purchaser may return a dog for a refund if the puppy becomes ill up to 15 days after pick up. Purchaser must take puppy to a veterinarian and must have adhered to the puppy's diet. Puppies should not go to dog parks, schoolyards, public parks, or places that have been frequented by unhealthy dogs until they have had all recommended puppy vaccinations. Should the dog be returned to us for any veterinarian certified health reason, (other than digestive upsets due to diet change, accidental poisoning, accidents, or other owner preventable health problems), within 15 days following purchase, the purchaser will then be entitled to a full refund of the original purchase price. If the illness is related to our facilities, we will pay the vet costs at a veterinarian of our choice. We do not guarantee against fleas or mites once a dog is taken outside our kennel. If your puppy becomes ill within 15 days from the day you receive it, you must call us immediately. All veterinary costs are the responsibility of the purchaser unless and until the dog is returned to Sequoia Kennels. Dogs that have developed health problems due to obesity, neglect and accident, misuse, or overuse syndromes are excluded from guarantee.

Ownership Responsibilities:

The purchaser agrees to maintain the dog in a humane environment and to properly train, socialize, and care for it. The dog will also be properly licensed and inoculated against communicable diseases and parasites as recommended by a qualified veterinarian.

Boarding and Pick up:

Owners are expected to pick up their dog on selection day or at the end of training. We will hold a selected puppy or trained puppy for one week free of charge if needed. After a week a boarding fee of $15 a day will be charged..

Right of Recovery/Dog Placement:

The purchaser agrees to notify the breeder if unable to provide an appropriate home for the dog, and will not abandon the dog to a shelter or give the dog away without notifying the breeder. If the dog is to be sold, the purchaser must give the breeder the right of first refusal. Should circumstances prevent continued ownership, the breeder will assist any owner of a Sequoia Kennels dog in finding a new home if necessary, including placing information we deem appropriate about the dog on our website. If the dog is returned for other than health reasons, refund is subject to resale of the dog and less the cost of advertising necessary to resell the dog. We are committed to providing continuing support to the owners of Sequoia dogs.
